Dr. William H. Whitaker, II

Dr. William H. Whitaker, II, is a servant of God who has dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, his life motto is “If I Can Help Somebody as I Pass Along, Then My Living Will Not Be in Vain” and he has dedicated his life to educating, training, and guiding church leaders in the service of the Lord.
Educationally, Dr. Whitaker received a Bachelor of Business in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, Virginia), a Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Whitaker’s professional ministry career began in 1992 and includes ecumenical service in the Baptist, Southern Baptist, Presbyterian, and AME denominations in both African-American and predominately white churches. An anointed authority in Church Business Administration and Servant Leadership, he has extensive experience from his many levels of employed service within the church including Church Administrator, Minister of Business, Executive Minister of Business, Executive Pastor, and Pastor.
Since 2000, Dr. Whitaker has served as the Church Business Manager of the historic First Baptist Church, South Richmond, Virginia (www.fbctoday.org) where Dr. Dwight C. Jones is the Sr. Pastor and Dr. Derik E. Jones is the Pastor.
In 2002, Dr. Whitaker became the visionary and founder of the CBA1: The Church Business Administration Network [About CBA1], a ministry-based consulting firm located in Richmond, Virginia. Since its founding, CBA1 has consistently provided the religious community with ecumenical ministry services, training, and resources on a state and national level.
In 2019, Dr. Whitaker and his wife, the Reverend Maria D. Whitaker, became the thankful co-founders and Pastors of the Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Virginia.
Academically, from 2004 to 2019, Dr. Whitaker served as a seminary instructor of Church Business, Finance, & Administration at the School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va. Additionally, he has also served as a Trainer of Church Business and Administration at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and guest lecturer/instructor at various seminaries across the country.
On a denominational level, from 2019 to 2024, Dr. Whitaker served as the Director of Clergy Ministry & Leadership Development with the Baptist General Convention of Virginia (BGCVA). He currently continues to provide ministry training to pastors, churches, and religious organizations as requested by BGCVA and other state conventions as well as through CBA1: The Church Business Administration Network..
Dr. Whitaker is the author of numerous books and publications including If I Hold My Peace – A Ministry of Self-Help for Clergy in Crisis, Managing the King’s Business - Employment and Business Dynamics for the Black Church, and On Trial in the Church – Ministry Dynamics for Church Staff & Leadership, and The Adventus Christi Series of Advent Sermons and Bible Studies.
Of all his accomplishments, Dr. Whitaker considers his family to be, by far, his greatest. He has been married to Maria Denise Whitaker for 30 years, and they have two wonderful children, Lauren McKenzie Whitaker and William (Will) Howard Whitaker, III.
